Three Dead as Shooting Rocks New South Wales
New South Wales police reported that an active investigation has launched "following reports of a shooting where three people have died at Lake Cargelligo" area.
The violent incident unfolded on Walker Street, near Yelkin Street in the Lake Cargelligo region.
"Three people -- two women and a man -- have died," the police said in the statement.
Authorities have not yet determined what precipitated the deadly encounter.
Emergency responders transported one male victim to medical facilities "in a serious but stable condition," police confirmed.
"The public is urged to avoid the area and for local residents to stay inside."
Media confirmed the shooter "is still at large," heightening public safety concerns across the rural community.
"A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident has commenced," it added.
Local lawmaker Roy Butler issued urgent public safety guidance via Facebook, the social media platform owned by the US company.
"As there has been a number of shootings and the offender has not been detained - please stay indoors until the advice changes," Roy Butler, local lawmaker, said in a statement on the US social media platform Facebook.
Police operations continue as investigators work to locate the suspect and piece together the sequence of events that led to the triple fatality in the typically quiet Lake Cargelligo area.
